Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome to the first letter of this term. I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable break.

Staffing
Welcome to Miss Annis who started work as a Midday Supervisor this week.  We are still looking for another Midday Supervisor for two days a week.  Please see the school office if you are interested.

Swimming
Well done to Chloe and Timothy (Year 6) who represented the Ringmer cluster of schools at a swimming tournament at the end of last term.  Both pupils did really well and should be very proud of their hard work, energy and determination to succeed.

Book Day
The school will be celebrating World Book Day on Friday, 11 March.  Your child may come to school dressed as a book character.

Change of Parent/Carer Teacher Consultation Times
We have had to change the times of the consultations due to the letting of the hall. They are now Tuesday, 8 March 5–7pm and Thursday, 10 March 4-6pm. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Achievement of Bronze Award and Sustainable Schools Green Project
The school has now achieved the Bronze Award in recognition in working towards and achieving a sustainable lifestyle at school. Thank you to staff, children and Governors for all the hard work and dedication in this achievement.  A special thank you to Mr Mike Hobden and the Eco Committee.

Continuing the Schools journey in achieving the Sustainable Schools Green Flag we will be undertaking a green project as part of the criteria for achieving the Green Flag. Our project will be to build a ‘Recycled Plastic Bottle Greenhouse’. To build the greenhouse we want all of the materials to come from a recycled and donated source. The list below is what we need to collect and we are asking families to put their plastic bottles to one side rather than putting them out for collection over the next couple of months, but also to scour your gardens for any of the other items required that you can give for us to build our greenhouse.

We want the greenhouse to be up and completed for our School Green Day this year which is on the 28 June. We therefore will be working with the Eco-School Reps (and volunteer parents with DIY skills) to build the greenhouse on the weekend prior to the Green Day on 25 & 26 June. Unfortunately we do not have the spaces at the School to store this equipment, so we are asking that you make a pledge to collect as many bottles as you can; and you will see below that we need a lot, or to donate any of the wood or other materials needed. A week for collecting all of this at the school will be done a few weeks before the build day so that we can ensure we have everything we need.
The following materials are required to build our greenhouse:

  • 4 - 8 foot long 4” x 4” Posts (treated)
  • 39 - 8 foot long 2” x 2” Posts (treated)
  • 140 - 6 foot garden canes
  • 2 - Door hinges
  • 40 - 4” screws for fixing timber to posts
  • 100 - 3” screws for making frames
  • 4 - Bags of concrete for main posts
  • 1500 - 2Ltr plastic bottle’s (Clean and without lids)

Also any old slabs, gravel or wood mulch for the greenhouse floor.
DIY enthusiastic parents with appropriate tools If you are able to help collect the bottles and materials, or you are willing to lend a hand on the build day can you please let the School Office know and we will keep you all informed as to how our collection is going and when we will ask to have all of the equipment and materials brought to the School.
Yours sincerely
